ID.3 heralds the next generation of Volkswagens

Posted on 18 Sept 2020
The history of the Volkswagen brand is not short of memorable events. Models like the Beetle and Golf have their own unique place in the evolution of the car. Now comes the ID.3: the next major step in the continuing story of the Volkswagen brand.

It's no exaggeration to state that the ID.3 symbolises a new era in motoring. It is the first model of an entirely new generation of pure electric vehicles - outstanding efficiency and full connectivity harnessed to zero emissions. The ID.3's driving credentials mark it as an all rounder suitable for everyday use. It's compact shape combines the manoeuvrability of a small car with the interior space of a mid range vehicle, incorporating exciting design, innovative technology and significant range.

The new modular electric drive matrix (MEB) has been conceived to deliver an uncompromising electric drive system, while the newly developed design DNA makes the car immediately identifiable as a zero emission vehicle.

The interior continues the revolutionary theme with a long wheelbase and very short overhangs, resulting in an expansive vehicle interior. Digital, entirely new display elements and controls ensure every driver will find their way in the ID.3. The ID light, which is also new, supports drivers with an LES strip during navigation and can, for instance, prompt braking in the event of danger.

The ID.3 will be available with three battery size options. The basic variant has a usable energy content of 45 kWh with a WLTP confirmed range of up to 205 miles. Alongside this is a battery variant of 58 kWh with a WLTP confirmed range of 260 miles. The energy content of the largest battery is 77 kWh and this has a forecasted range of 340 miles.

Thanks to its fast charging capability, it is possible to charge the ID.3 sufficiently for a range of 180 miles within 30 minutes using a charging output of 100KW (Direct Current).

Peter Long, Sales Manager here at Phillips (Lisburn) Ltd, said:

"Volkswagen is serious about electric cars and we're really excited about the arrival of the new ID.3 family hatchback at our Lisburn showroom".
